MENOMONIE MIDDLE SCHOOL PHYSICAL EDUCATION
EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
  1. Shorts and shirt with sleeves to be left at school. No boxers, no cutoffs. MMS dress code applies.
  2. TOWEL (we will no longer have a towel service).
  3. Athletic shoes and socks. Shoes must have non-marking soles. Skateboard shoes are not allowed.
  4. Sweatshirt and pants for cold weather. (Optional)
  5. SHOES MUST BE TIED TIGHT AT ALL TIMES. NO JEWELRY.
  6. Personal hygiene items. (Deodorant, soap, comb, etc.) NO GLASS.
  7. NO CELL PHONES OR CAMERA DEVICES IN THE LOCKER ROOM.
LOCKERS
  1. At the beginning of the year each student will be assigned a locker. Keep your own locker and do not change lockers with any other student unless you have the instructor’s permission.
  2. BE SURE YOUR LOCK IS LOCKED BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE LOCKERROOM. Spin the dial and pull on the lock to make sure it is properly locked. YOU are responsible for the lock. If you lose your lock you will be required to pay another $6.00 fee for a new one.
  3. Only locks issued by the physical education department shall be used in the locker room. All non-school locks will be cut off the lockers.
  4. Put your street clothes in the LONG LOCKERS ONLY DURING CLASS TIME AND ORGANIZED AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES.
  5. NO GLASS IN THE LOCKER ROOM.
THE SCHOOL IS NOT RESPONSBILE FOR YOUR LOST OR STOLEN ITEMS

DRESSING AND SHOWERS
  1. Students are allowed five (5) minutes in which to dress after the beginning of the period. This time will be used for dressing and reporting attendance in the proper gymnasium or the multi-purpose room.
  2. Ten (10) minutes will be allowed at the end of each class period for showers and dressing. Each student is expected to shower everyday after activity for health and hygiene reasons.
  3. NO CELL PHONES OR INNAPPROPRIA TE BEHA VIOR IN THE LOCKERROOM.
  4. Do not throw or leave soap on the shower room floor. Turn ALL showers off when you leave the shower room.
  5. NO GLASS CONTAINERS OF ANY KIND ARE ALLOWED IN THE LOCKER ROOM.
TOWELS (*Change this year)
The school district will no longer provide a towel service for the students. The students are responsible to bring their own towel and take it home to clean it.

ILLNESS AND/OR PHYSICAL DISABILITY
  1. Partial excuse – To be excused from parts of the physical activity, a student must bring a note from home indicating the problem to the school nurse or his/her instructor (PRIOR TO THE FIRST PERIOD) to determine the limitation – and may choose to modify activity during the limitation period. DRESS FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION WILL BE REQUIRED EVEN IF THE STUDENT IS ONLY REQUIRED TO WALK FOR THE CLASS PERIOD.
  2. TOTAL NON-PARTICIPATION WILL BE ALLOWED BY A DOCTOR’S EXCUSE ONLY.
3. ABSENCE - When absent a student must “make – up” that time and/or activity. The physical education absence form must be returned and signed by a parent/guardian. Students can get the form from their instructor.
GENERAL RULES
1. At the end of the period, stay in the locker room or hallway until the bell sounds. Students must stay in required areas or they will be marked absent.
2. No one should enter the equipment room or instructor’s office without permission. NEVER USE EQUIPMENT UNTIL TOLD TO DO SO.
3. Return all equipment and materials promptly to their proper place.
REPORT ALL ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES IMMEDIATELY TO AN INSTRUCTOR!!
GRADING
Standards based grading
Grades will also be based on a variety of formal and informal assessments, quizzes, worksheets, portfolio’s & projects.
GRADES CAN BE ACCESSED VIA THE ONLINE GRADEBOOK PHYSICAL EDUCATION ACTIVITIES
(All activities include an emphasis on fitness, team building, cooperation, and our core values).
LIMITATIONS
IF YOUR CHILD IS LIMITED PLEASE ATTACH A STATEMENT FROM YOUR FAMILY PHYSICIAN AS TO THE EXTENT OF THE LIMITING CONDITIONS & DATE OF LAST PHYSICAL EXAM.

Course Description: Middle School Physical Education is on an A/B schedule for the entire year. This means physical education will be offered every other day to all students. This course is designed to give students the opportunity to learn through a developmentally appropriate and fitness orientated program that is aligned with the Wisconsin State Physical Education Standards.
Goal: To provide students with the opportunity to learn and develop the basic skills and knowledge in a wide variety of organized team and individual physical activities.

Grading policy at the Middle School:
Grading at MMS is based on achievement of standards for each course.
The grading scale is:

4 – Advanced: In addition to the performance score of 3.0, the student demonstrates in depth inferences and applications that extend what was taught.

3 – Proficient: There are no major errors or omissions regarding any of the information and/or processes (simple or complex) that were explicitly taught. The student has attained the standard at his/her grade level. 2.5
2 – Basic: There are no major errors or omissions regarding the simpler details and processes, but there are major errors or omissions regarding the more complex ideas and processes.
